Crossing the river of fire: Creative Writing Workshop with Ron Whitehead (US)
Join us in Woody Point for an extraordinary opportunity to deepen your creative spark with Ron Whitehead, our first writer-in-residence for Sonic Harvest. At 74, Ron (Louisville, Kentucky) is a poet, writer, editor, publisher, professor, scholar, activist, and U.S. National Lifetime Beat Poet Laureate. He’s a sweet country boy at heart, a UNESCO Europe Writer-in-Residence, and a nominee for both the Pulitzer and Nobel Prize in Literature. His philosophy that "writing is music" is reflected in the unique collaborations he often forms with musicians.
This three-hour workshop is an eye-opening journey of self-discovery. Ron will share tools, techniques, and insights for finding your authentic voice, becoming your own best editor, and performing your work with power and presence. You’ll be challenged like never before, and you'll be amazed by your growth. Take a risk—take your work to the next level. Ron Whitehead has led workshops across Europe and the USA, from Lapland to New Orleans.
Introduction to Music Therapy with Kyleigh Brisson
Discover the benefits of music therapy in this engaging session led by Kyleigh Brisson. Whether you're curious about the healing power of music or interested in learning how it can enhance mental well-being, this workshop will provide insights into the therapeutic uses of music and sound, as well as a group music therapy session with the artist.
Join us for an afternoon of exploration into how music can impact our emotions, reduce stress, and foster a sense of community. This session is open to everyone—no prior musical experience is required.
Seats are limited, so arrive early to secure your spot!

About Sonic Harvest
Sonic Harvest Sessions is an annual fall festival taking place in October at the Award-Winning Woody Point Heritage Theatre and in the community of Woody Point. Sonic Harvest highlights the diverse and emerging musical and other creative talent in Newfoundland & Labrador, and beyond.
In 2021, Friends of Writers at Woody Point launched the Sonic Harvest Sessions initiative to increase cultural offerings at the Heritage Theatre and Gros Morne National Park outside the primary tourism season and foster live music creation and presentation in rural Newfoundland. Entering its fourth season and to celebrate year of the arts, Sonic Harvest Sessions continues to captivate audiences to experience the intimate magic at Woody Point Heritage Theatre through music, stories, and friends and to enjoy the unique hospitality of the community and town of Woody Point, nestled in the heart of the beautiful Bonne Bay, Gros Morne National Park.
The lineup has featured such talents as The Kalimbas (Ireland), Dennis Parker, Fairgale, Rosemary Lawton, The Catch, Graig Young Trio, Kacie Callahan, Baraka, Glen Tilley & Bill Rose, Pretty Archie, Nick Earle, and the Proper Things.
