Baraka

From his home base of St. John’s, NL, Baraka is a soulful singer/songwriter whose sound and spirit are sure to tug on the heartstrings of everyone who hears him sing. Originally hailing from the coastal city of Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, Baraka has been performing and writing music since he was 14 years old. Drawing influences from artists such as Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, and Tracy Chapman, he has a natural talent for writing clever lyrics and infectious melodies.Having already made several notable appearances on media networks at provincial and national level such as the EastLink Community TV, Rogers Out of The Fog, CBC NL, and CBC Radio One; together with opening for some of the province’s premier musicians in Janet Cull and Kellie Loder, Baraka’s magnetic presence and energy has seen him gain popularity and recognition in the community as a world class act. Baraka is currently putting the final touches on his debut 5-Track EP with producer Matt Dines. Funded by MusicNL, the EP is set to release this spring and is the first step in setting up Baraka as one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most promising emerging talents.

With Violet

With Violet is an East Coast alt-pop band hailing from St. John’s, Newfoundland, blending infectious pop hooks with rock sensibilities and jazz-inflected flair. Since reforming in 2021, they’ve captivated audiences with dynamic live shows and a fresh, genre-defying sound that’s earned comparisons to Steely Dan, The Darkness, and the Arkells. The band—Sarah Newell (Vocals & Saxophone), Pete (Vocals & Keyboards), Matthew Cadigan (Guitar), Spencer FitzGerald (Bass), and Hunter Madden (Drums)—has quickly become a mainstay in Newfoundland’s music scene. With five MusicNL nominations in 2024 and wins for Group of the Year and Alternative Artist of the Year, they continue to build on the success of their acclaimed album Saturday Nights In Your Sunday Best, which passed 30,000 streams and charted at #2 on college radio. They’ve played major festivals like Iceberg Alley and George Street Festival, opening for acts like The Beaches and Barenaked Ladies.

The Navigators

From the rocky shores of Newfoundland, Canada The Navigator’s formed in 2000 based on a unique combination of baritone voices and instrumentalists into a folk band that is as much known for its own original contemporary trad as it is for the traditional music. With four full studio albums, Bay Bulls Cove (2023); Soldiers and Sailors (2011); Sea Miner (2009), Dance and Sing (2001), and a number of other recording contributions, the group has toured all of Canada, much of the US and Europe.

As Music NL’s Award for Folk/Roots Group of the Year (2002), the band has created a name and following across the province that just gets stronger every year. As part of the successful “Celtic Christmas” The Navigators has enjoyed 13 years of touring NL and even put together a popular CD of the same name along with The Irish Descendant’s (2010).

The band’s first CD Dance and Sing was the longest running #1 selling CD at Fred’s Record’s in St. John’s, holding the spot for almost a full decade and is still the #4 best selling CD of all time! In 2021, The Navigator’s were invited to record a song from the Broadway musical Come FromAway by its producers. Their version of Welcome to the Rock became an instant favourite and was released early as a part of Apple TVs movie version of the musical

Stepping into a bold new era of music, Mallory recently released her poignant single “f*ck that” and follow-up singles “suitcase” and “the circus” — all of which are an introduction to her upcoming sophomore album produced by Andrew Petroff (Sheryl Crow, Meg McRee). This new batch of music has already earned her two 2025 ECMA nominations (country recording and fans’ choice entertainer of the year), two 2024 MusicNL nominations (Songwriter and Fans’ Choice Entertainer of the Year) and early editorial playlist support including multiple cross-genre Apple Music playlists as well as Amazon Music’s cover for “Break Through Country.

This genre-bending artist demonstrates a captivating fusion of dark Americana with her distinctive alternative-country flair. The new project follows the release of her critically acclaimed 2022 album Surprise Party (produced by Grammy-nominated producer Kent Wells [Dolly Parton]), which solidified her place as a standout voice in Canadian country. Featuring viral track "Married," which garnered over 26 million TikTok views, Surprise Party received praise from the likes of PEOPLE, CMT, The Boot, the Toronto Star, and national television outlets. The album also took home the 2023 ECMA for Country Recording of the Year, while earning Mallory 6 2023 MusicNL nominations (including a win for Country Artist of the Year) and two 2023 CCMA nominations for Alternative Country Album and Innovative Campaign of the Year. As Jodee + Nicole, the two have performed together frequently throughout their two-year
partnership, reimagining original songs and beloved covers for various concert series and
festivals as well as making regular appearances in St. John’s.

Aside from their independent careers, Jodee and Nicole have shared the stage as rock
musicians over the years with collaborations between the Pathological Lovers/Fur Packed
Action and members of saxophone band Ouroboros as recently as June 2023. The two also
overlap in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, where Nicole plays bassoon and Jodee is a frequent featured artist, and Perchance Theatre, where they both work on the creative design and performance teams throughout the summer season. Their newest project, nine-member original band Hit Piece, debuted at this year's Writers at Woody Point Festival.
